mission

We maintain that in its present form censorship violates the essential rights of citizens. We seek to intervene in this situation by promoting the screening of films and generating discussion on the politics and aesthetics of filmmaking. Public opinion is an important part of our struggle, and as filmmakers, we believe it is essential to energise a strong screening culture.

We are aware that the best way to guard our rights as citizens is to speak clearly, speak honestly and speak from all corners of the country. The Delhi Film Archive involves itself in

  • promoting the dissemination of documentary and short films

  • creating a screening culture where open access and the diversity of ideas and images is celebrated

  • raising awareness on the ways in which the censorship regime is blatantly used to deny people the right to freedom of expression
